TESHIE, ACCRA, Ghana — The 2026 edition of the International Central Gospel Church’s (ICGC) flagship Greater Works Conference officially opened on Monday evening with a powerful communion service led by General Overseer Pastor Mensa Otabil, who also formally declared the end of the church’s annual 40 Days of Power.
Held at the ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie, Accra, the opening night brought together thousands of worshippers from Ghana and around the world, both in person and through television, radio and multiple online platforms. The service combined passionate worship, testimonies from the 40-day prayer and fasting season, Holy Communion, and a deeply biblical message centred on God’s eternal kingdom.
The evening began with thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness throughout the 40 Days of Power, during which participants sought God through daily prayer and fasting. Several testimonies highlighted remarkable answers to prayer, including reports of healing, medical breakthroughs, employment success and divine intervention.
In his opening remarks, Pastor Otabil thanked God for sustaining believers throughout the spiritual exercise before making a historic declaration.
“It is my joy… to declare the end of 40 Days of Power at this moment. You may now eat. And with greater joy, I declare the beginning of these five days of Greater Works.”
He prayed that every prayer offered during the 40-day period would receive divine answers and that God’s grace would rest upon individuals, families, churches and nations.
The opening night also featured vibrant worship led by renowned gospel ministers Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan, whose ministrations prepared the congregation for the Word of God. Conference participants were encouraged to expect open heavens, miracles, healing and renewed faith throughout the week.
Delivering the opening sermon titled “The Stone That Crushed the Image,” Pastor Otabil expounded Daniel Chapter 2, explaining how King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream ultimately points to Jesus Christ and the establishment of God’s kingdom over every earthly kingdom.
Drawing from Daniel’s interpretation of the great image made of gold, silver, bronze and iron, Pastor Otabil explained that the stone “cut without hands” represents Christ, whose kingdom will ultimately overcome every human system and power.
“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our God.”
He described God as the sovereign Lord of history who orchestrates nations, rulers and events according to His eternal purposes.
“God is a God of history. He works in historical events. He works with the schemes of men and overtakes the schemes of men.”
Pastor Otabil declared that just as God fulfilled Daniel’s prophecy through the coming of Jesus during the Roman Empire, God continues to intervene in the lives of His people today.
Throughout the message, he repeatedly proclaimed that every “image” standing against God’s purpose in believers’ lives would be destroyed by the authority of Christ.
“God is about to crush every image in your life.”
He prayed against spiritual strongholds, sickness, failure, poverty, barrenness, fear and every force opposing God’s purposes, declaring victory through Jesus Christ.
The opening service concluded with Holy Communion, during which Pastor Otabil reminded worshippers that Christ’s sacrifice provides healing, redemption, protection and victory for every believer.
Greater Works 2026 continues throughout the week with morning and evening teaching sessions featuring an international lineup of ministers including Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Bishop Tudor Bismark, and conference host Pastor Mensa Otabil.
As the conference officially commenced, Pastor Otabil expressed confidence that the same God who has ruled throughout history would once again demonstrate His power in the lives of His people.
The opening night set a strong spiritual tone for the remaining days of Greater Works 2026, with thousands leaving encouraged that God’s kingdom still reigns and that no obstacle is too great for the Lord to overcome.
