ACCRA, Ghana — Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo has outlined 10 practical principles Christians can apply to move from financial survival into prosperity and lasting influence.
Delivering his message, “Breaking Into Higher Levels of Wealth,” at the Day 2 morning session of Greater Works 2026, he taught that prayer for financial breakthrough must be accompanied by transformed habits, wisdom and disciplined action.
“Many people pray for financial breakthrough while remaining in the same financial habit,” he observed.
The first principle, he said, is to decide that average is no longer acceptable. Believers must become dissatisfied with stagnation and make a conscious decision to pursue growth.
Secondly, Christians must change their financial identity from consumers into creators, investors and owners. He warned against building personal identity around expensive products and other people’s brands.
Thirdly, he encouraged believers to increase their value before demanding increased income, explaining that specialised knowledge and rare expertise attract greater rewards.
His fourth principle was to make difficult decisions quickly. Using Abraham, Moses and Peter as examples, he explained that progress often requires leaving familiar environments and making uncomfortable choices.
Pastor Ashimolowo also urged believers to develop financial intelligence by studying taxation, business, cash flow, equity, investment and compound growth.
Other principles included living below one’s means, building assets instead of collecting liabilities, mastering one skill until it becomes rare, creating multiple streams of income and embracing ownership.
“The goal is not to be good. The goal is to become irreplaceable,” he declared while encouraging believers to pursue excellence in their chosen fields.
He explained that one salary creates vulnerability, but multiple income streams provide greater stability. These may include businesses, investments, farms, books, digital products, property and dividends.
Concluding the teaching, Pastor Ashimolowo urged Christians to build sustainable systems instead of depending entirely on salaries.
“Employees exchange time. Owners create systems. Ownership multiplies wealth,” he said.
