ACCRA, Ghana — Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare has urged Christians not to abandon prophetic ministry because of failed predictions, insisting that errors should lead believers toward biblical discernment, accountability and maturity rather than cynicism.
Addressing scholars, religious leaders and students at the University of Ghana’s Political Prophecies Conference, the Founder of Perez Chapel International acknowledged that Scripture clearly warns against false, presumptuous and self-generated prophecy.
“Failed prophecy should provoke discernment, not cynicism or wholesale rejection,” he said.
Archbishop Agyinasare outlined four biblical tests for evaluating prophecy: fulfilment, theological consistency, the character and fruit of the speaker, and communal discernment.
“You can’t live anyhow and expect your prophecy to be accepted,” he warned, stressing that spiritual giftedness cannot replace godly character, self-control, integrity and accountability.
“Giftedness, therefore, is not the primary biblical test of genuine ministry. Godliness is,” he declared.
He explained that prophetic failure may result from partial understanding, emotional influence, pressure to perform, the desire to maintain popularity or weak accountability structures.
According to him, believers must neither despise prophecy nor receive every declaration without examination.
“The corrective to prophetic failure is not rejection of the gift but cultivation of prophetic maturity, accountability and biblical fidelity within the body of Christ,” Archbishop Agyinasare said.
He also encouraged religious organisations to establish credible structures for correction, theological discernment and public clarification when prophecies fail.
